Commuter Benefits
The Commuter Benefits Plan lets you pay for certain commuting expenses, such as public transportation, parking, or both, with dollars that are not taxed - saving you money.
You choose how much to contribute pre-tax for each account (up to IRS limits). After tax contributions can be made if your monthly commuting expenses exceed the IRS pre-tax limits. When registering your BRi account for the first time, the company code is pernod and your member ID is your social security number.
Be mindful of your account balance - if your employment terminates, unused funds will be forfeited.*
You can make changes to your contributions at any time by following the steps outlined in the guide below. If you wish to stop contributions, you simply must adjust the contributions to $0. Do not waive coverage if you still have a balance on your card.
Parking Account
A Parking Account is one of two accounts under a Commuter Benefit Plan, which allows you to set aside money from your paycheck (before taxes) and use it for work-related parking expenses.
Monthly contribution up to $315 pre-tax & unlimited after-tax.
Can be used to pay for any portion of your commute that involves parking. This may include parking at/near your place of employment, or parking at/near a location in which you take mass transit. However, a parking expense at/near your home is not an eligible expense.
Mass Transit Account
A Mass Transit Account is one of two accounts under a Commuter Benefit Plan, which allows you to set aside money from your paycheck (before taxes) to use for work-related mass transit expenses.
Monthly contribution up to $315 pre-tax & unlimited after-tax.
Can be used to pay for any portion of your workplace commute where you take mass transit. This may include subways, buses, ferries, trains, and vanpools. However, you cannot use a mass transit account to pay for taxis, tolls, or carpools.
*Important Notice: If you have a commuter benefit account and you become ineligible to participate in this plan due to termination of employment:
a. Any tax-free funds remaining in your account at the end of the month in which you become ineligible will be taxable.
b. Account balances will be accessible via the Beniversal Card until the end of the month following your last month of eligibility.
c. For claim reimbursement of eligible workplace parking and vanpooling expenses: Eligible expenses must be incurred after your effective date in the plan and through your last month of eligibility. Claims must be submitted to Benefit Resource by the end of the month following your last month of eligibility.
d. Any funds remaining in your account after this period will be forfeited.
